Airbrush Tanning
Preparing for your custom airbrush tan.
Your airbrushed tan is a pigment change on the outer layer of your skin. As this outer layer is constantly sloughing off and regenerating, you can enhance the length and quality of your tan by improving the condition of your skin.
Shower, shave and exfoliate
prior to your airbrush tanning session, the night before if possible. Lather on lotion after your shower, in order to thoroughly hydrate your skin. AVOID Dove soap of any kind.
If you are SHOWERING, SHAVING, and EXFOLIATING the same day as your airbrush tanning session:
* RINSE OFF ALL SOAP THOROUGHLY
* NO LOTIONS OR OILS
Shaving and most exfoliating methods leave micro-abrasions on the skin, which typically heal overnight. The preferred exfoliant for airbrush tanning is one that both removes dead skin cells and leaves the skin with a healthy PH balance. Glycolic exfoliants like GLYTONE body wash work incredibly well, leave no micro-abrasions on the skin, correct the skin’s PH and can be used IMMEDIATELY prior to airbrush tanning. The GLYTONE body wash will also help to remove any remnants of your previous airbrush tan.
Avoid deodorants and cosmetics
Cosmetics can be applied two hours after your airbrush session.
Bring darker clothing to leave in
including undergarments, if you are opting for the bronze solution. The bronze tint will easily wash out of clothing and linens, but tends to be stubborn on elastic and dry clean only garments. Loose clothing, sandals or flip-flops are perfect. Women should ideally refrain from wearing a bra for two hours afterward unless it was worn during the airbrush session.
The care & feeding of your airbrushed tan
Your tan begins to emerge in 4 to 6 hours after your tanning session. It will continue to darken over the next 24 hours. Your tan will begin to fade in 4 to 7 days, depending on how you prepared your skin prior to your tan, and how you care for your skin after your tan.
- Do take special care for the first two hours after you have been airbrushed to wear loose clothing and not to get and substance on your skin, including water. This includes manicures, pedicures, shampooing and perspiring.
- Wait for 10 to 12 hours before showering
- Moisturize your skin at least twice daily beginning after your first shower if you’ve been airbrushed with the Bronze, or in 4 to 5 hours if you’ve been airbrushed in the Natural
- Rinse off or shower immediately after workouts, swimming in pools and salt-water bathing.
- Avoid Dove soap of any form
- CORRECT light areas by applying MAINTAIN lotion specifically to the lighter areas. Areas they may be lightened due to abrasive wearing, such as shoes on the feet, or bra lines, can be restored to match your tan. The DHA content in MAINTAIN will even out these areas with one or two applications
- LIGHTEN dark areas by applying GLYTONE Body Lotion specifically to the darker area. Scrub lightly with a pumice stone. Repeat this process until the dark area lightens to the desired shade. For very dark or stubborn areas apply GLYTONE and let area soak over night. The repeat application of GLYTONE and rub with either a pumice stone or a pedicure brush. Glytone may be used to exfoliate off the last remnants of an airbrushed tan.
- EXTEND your tan to 10-14 days by using MAINTAIN all over body once or twice a day. You may also use your regular moisturizer. More is better!
